        Son of former Burnley player, Frank, Chris was born in Burnley. He joined United as a trainee in 1991 and signed professional in January 1993. He has captained the England Youth team and was a member of their European Championship winning side in 1993 and the England Under 21 side in Toulon 1996.  Chris made his United debut in the Coca Cola Cup tie against Port Vale at Old Trafford in October 1994.
